At NSL, we pride in showcasing innovative projects that push the boundaries of sustainability and efficiency. One such remarkable achievement comes from our sister company, Magic Lite, which has successfully implemented a fully off-the-grid home illuminated by cutting-edge LED lighting solutions on the Magnetawan River.
A Sustainable Marvel on the Magnetawan River
Barry and Lorraine Burton transformed their retirement dream into reality by building a fully off-grid home powered by solar energy. This project not only embodies sustainability but also highlights the excellence of Magic Lite’s LED lighting solutions in enhancing the quality of off-grid living.
Technical Highlights of the Project:
a) Solar Power System:
- Solar Panels: The system includes 6 X 340 Watt 60-cell and 3 X 450 Watt 72-cell solar panels.
- Battery Bank: A 24 Volt DC (4 X 6 VDC) 10 KW Rolls Battery bank managed via a MIDNITE CLASSIC 200 Controller.
- Inverter: A 3KW Schneider Context SW 4024 Inverter powers the 120-volt backup system, with a Generac standby generator for emergencies.
b) LED Lighting Solutions:
- Master Bedroom: Features a Single 4 ft Hard Strip 24 VDC, 16 watts (LV-HS-PD20-24V-120-3000K) for a warm, comforting glow.
- Great Room: Illuminated by a Wooden Horse Yoke Chandelier and Cove Lighting, providing an inviting atmosphere.
- Kitchen: Equipped with LED Mini Star II puck lights (LEDMS-II-BK) for efficient and effective task lighting.
- Loft: Enhanced by a custom chandelier made from horse hames and Globe Lights (MGST-2700K), supplemented by additional hard strips for versatile lighting.
c) Sustainable Materials:
- The interior beams are sourced from Simcoe County managed forest, the largest municipal forest in Canada, further emphasizing the project’s commitment to sustainability.
The Takeaway
Magic Lite’s off-grid project on the Magnetawan River serves as an inspiring blueprint for environmentally conscious living.
